Built for Clarity, Not Complexity
Holy Budget is a free online budget planner built because managing your money shouldn’t require a finance degree, a subscription, or a 47-tab spreadsheet. It should be simple, private, and honest about where your money actually went.
Why We Built Holy Budget
It started with a simple frustration. Every budgeting tool out there either wanted your bank credentials, charged a monthly fee, or buried you under features you’d never use. We just wanted to know: how much came in, how much went out, and how much was set aside?
So we built Holy Budget — a simple budgeting tool that answers exactly those three questions, month after month, without the noise. No bank linking. No premium walls. No algorithms deciding what’s important. Just you, your numbers, and an honest picture of where your money goes.
Since then it has grown into a proper expense tracker: separate cash and online balances, category budgets, savings goals, repeating bills, and a daily spending allowance that knows the rent is still coming. Every one of those features exists because it answers a question you’d otherwise have to work out on paper.
Your entries are saved to your own account on this site and cached on your device, so the tracker keeps working when your connection drops. Nothing is sold, shared, or used for advertising.
If you can see where your money goes, you’ll naturally start making better choices. That’s the whole idea.
— The philosophy behind Holy BudgetEverything Holy Budget Does
A budget planner that answers the questions you’d otherwise work out on paper — and never guesses at numbers it can’t actually know.
Cash and online, kept apart
Two balances at the top of the page: notes in your pocket, and everything in your bank, UPI and cards. Move money shifts funds between them — deposits, ATM withdrawals — without ever counting as income or spending.
Category budgets
Set a monthly limit for groceries, dining, fuel — anything. The bar turns amber once you pass 80% and red when you go over, and always shows exactly how much room is left.
Safe to spend today
One number that divides what’s left by the days remaining. It holds back money you’ve already promised — rent dated the 30th is set aside first, so the figure is money you can genuinely spend.
Bills that fill themselves in
Tick repeat every month when you log rent, salary, an EMI or a subscription. It appears automatically each month on the same date, right up to today. Delete one and it stays deleted.
Savings goals
Name a goal, give it a target and a deadline. Saving entries in a matching category fill it up, and Holy Budget works out how much a month you need to hit the date.
Categories you control
Rename a category and every entry follows. Rename one to match another and the two merge — so “food” and “Food” stop splitting your charts. Give each one a colour and an emoji.
Charts that explain themselves
A donut of where the money went, a six-month income-versus-spending trend, a spending line over the last 30 days or 12 weeks, and a calendar heatmap of the days you actually spend.
Your data, downloadable
Export every entry as CSV for a spreadsheet, or take a full JSON backup in one click. Import brings data back in and merges it — it never wipes what’s already there.
Keeps working offline
Lost your signal mid-entry? It’s saved on your device and synced the moment you’re back. When your phone and the server disagree, the more recent edit wins — nothing is silently overwritten.
And the small things that add up
- Dark mode across the whole page
- Rearrange the dashboard — drag it into your own order
- Maths in the amount box — type 250+120 and it adds up
- Today’s total, against your daily average
- Entries grouped by day with a running total each day
- Search and filter across every entry you’ve made
- Future-dated entries wait under Scheduled until their day
- Eight currencies with local number formatting
- Leftover money carries into next month automatically
- Undo on every delete
- Edit from anywhere — no scrolling to the bottom
- A Summary page for the whole story, month by month
What We Believe In
Every decision we make about Holy Budget filters through these six principles.
Transparency
Your data is yours. We don’t sell it, share it, or run advertising analytics on it — and you can export every entry at any moment, so you’re never locked in.
Simplicity
Three entry types. One view per month. Charts that explain themselves. We remove features that don’t genuinely help you understand your finances — including ones we’d already built.
Free, genuinely
No trial period, no premium tier, no “sign up now before the price goes up.” Holy Budget is free today and will remain free. Period.
Privacy first
No tracking pixels, no third-party analytics, no advertising scripts inside the tracker. We never ask for a bank login, because we never want access to your accounts.
Honesty over optimism
The numbers don’t lie. If you overspent, the tracker says so. If a figure depends on something we can’t verify, we don’t show it at all rather than guess.
Grow at your pace
There’s no “right” savings rate or spending pattern. Holy Budget shows your reality without judging it — so you can improve on your own terms.
How This Online Budget Planner Is Different
Most budgeting apps are built to monetize your financial data or lock you into a subscription. Holy Budget is built for one purpose: to help you see your money clearly. It works as an expense tracker for individuals who want honest numbers without corporate interference.
There’s no onboarding questionnaire, no AI guessing at your spending, and no social features comparing you to strangers. You open it, log your entry, and close the tab. That’s the entire workflow.
It also refuses to invent numbers. We built a loan payoff calculator and then removed it, because Indian lenders quote flat and reducing rates differently and the results would have been confidently wrong. A budget planner that misleads you is worse than one that stays quiet.
No bank linking required
You control what goes in. No sensitive credentials, no scraping, no third-party middlemen.
Works on any device
Phone, tablet or laptop — it’s a website, not an app. Your entries and even your layout follow your login.
Money carries forward
Leftover funds roll into next month automatically, on top of what you already had when you started.
Multiple currencies
Eight currencies — INR, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, RUB, AUD, CAD — with locale-aware formatting.
How to Use Holy Budget — Step by Step
Setup is three questions and takes about a minute. Here’s every step anyway, including the parts you can safely skip.
Create your free account
Click “Start tracking” on the homepage and register with your email. No credit card, no payment, no catch — you’re in within 30 seconds.
Pick your currency Setup 1 of 3
The first time you open the tracker, a short setup appears. Choose from eight currencies — INR, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, RUB, AUD or CAD. You can change it later from Settings.
Say what you’ve already saved Setup 2 of 3
Money you’ve set aside and don’t plan to spend — savings account, fixed deposit, investments. It feeds your “Total saved to date” without touching your monthly income or savings rate. Skip it if you’re not sure; Settings has the same field.
Say what you have in hand Setup 3 of 3
Split between cash and online — notes and coins versus bank, UPI and cards. This becomes your starting balance, so “Left” and “safe to spend” reflect what you really have. One rule: don’t count the same money twice if you already entered it as savings.
Add your first entry
Choose a type — Income, Expense or Saving — and the account it came from. Type the amount (you can type 250+120 and it works it out), pick a category or add your own, then “Add entry.” That’s the core action; everything else flows from it.
Put a limit on the categories that run away
In Category budgets, set a monthly cap for groceries, dining, fuel — whatever tends to creep. The bar warns you at 80% and turns red when you go over. Limits repeat every month on their own.
Let the fixed bills log themselves
When you add rent, salary, an EMI or a subscription, tick “Repeat this every month.” Holy Budget fills it in each month on the same date so you never type it twice. Delete a generated entry and it won’t come back.
Read the top of the page
Your cash and online balances, what you’ve spent today, and how much is safe to spend per day for the rest of the month. That last figure quietly sets aside anything you’ve dated later — so the rent money is never offered back to you.
Move money between cash and online
Deposited notes into your account, or pulled cash from an ATM? Use “Move money.” It changes only which account holds the money — your income, spending, savings rate and budgets stay exactly where they were.
Fix mistakes without hunting for them
Hit “Edit entries” at the top of the entry form to search everything you’ve logged and edit or delete it on the spot. Every delete comes with an Undo, and all totals and charts recalculate instantly.
Make it look how you want
Switch to dark mode from the top bar. Drag any block by the handle in its corner to reorder your dashboard — or use the arrows in Settings on a phone. Your layout is saved to your account and follows you between devices.
Zoom out — and keep a backup
The Summary page gives you lifetime totals, a year-by-year view and a month-by-month table with your running balance. And from Settings, take a CSV export or JSON backup whenever you like. It’s your money data; you should always be able to walk away with it.
