Features & How-To

Everything Holy Budget Can Do

A full tour of every feature — what it does, and exactly how to use it. Grouped so you can find what you need in seconds. No feature here guesses at a number it can’t actually know.

Getting Started

Setup is three questions and about a minute. Here’s what happens before you log your first rupee.

A free account

Register with an email — no card, no payment, no trial that expires. It exists only so your data can be saved and follow you around.

How Click Start tracking on the homepage and sign up. You’re in within 30 seconds.

Syncs across your devices

Open it on your phone in the morning and your laptop at night — it’s the same, up-to-date data everywhere.

How Just sign in on any device. Syncing is automatic; there’s nothing to switch on.

First-time setup: three questions

A short wizard the first time in: your currency, the savings you already had (kept separate), and what you have to spend now, split into cash and online.

How Answer the three prompts. Not sure on one? Skip it — every field is editable later in Settings.

Your Money Dashboard

The “This month” card at the top answers the only question that matters day to day: what can I actually spend right now?

Money to work with

A plain-English headline of your total for the month, including whatever carried over from last month, so you start from the real number.

Where It’s the big line at the top of the This month card.

Spent / Saved / Left bar

One coloured bar breaks the whole month into three parts — what you’ve spent, saved, and have left — with a matching legend underneath.

Where Right under the headline. It fills in live as you add entries.

Cash & online balances

Two separate balances — notes in your pocket versus money in your bank, UPI and cards — so you always know what’s actually where.

How Set both during setup; every entry you tag as cash or online keeps them accurate.

Safe to spend today

The hero number: what you can spend today without wrecking the month. It’s not your balance — it’s your balance minus everything already committed.

How Set a monthly budget in Settings and it switches on. Log a purchase and it updates instantly.

Money held back

Dated a bill for later this month? It’s reserved automatically, so the “safe to spend” figure never offers you money the rent already claimed.

How Give any entry a future date — the app quietly sets it aside until then.

Today’s spend

How much you’ve spent today, how many entries that is, and whether you’re above or below your usual daily average.

Where A single line on the dashboard, updating as the day goes.

Move money between cash & online

Deposited notes, or pulled cash from an ATM? Shift funds between your two balances without it ever counting as income or spending.

How Tap Switch (the move-money button, labelled with your currency) and enter the amount.

Month navigation

Step back to see a past month or forward to plan ahead — the whole dashboard follows the month you’re viewing.

How Use the arrows beside the month name, or tap Today to jump back.

Income, Spent & Saved cards

Three summary tiles for the month’s totals, each with a small up-or-down comparison against last month.

Where Just below the dashboard card.

Logging Money

The core action. Everything else in Holy Budget flows from a single, fast entry form.

Add an entry

The heart of the app. Amount, category, date — a few taps and it’s logged, with every total and chart recalculating on the spot.

How Fill the form and hit Add entry. That’s the one habit worth building.

Three entry types

Every entry is an Expense, Income, or a Saving. That simple split is what keeps the whole picture honest.

How Pick the type at the top of the form before you type the amount.

Cash or online

Tag where the money actually moved. It keeps both balances correct and later powers the cash-vs-online view in your table.

How Choose the account on the entry form. Each entry draws from the right pool.

Built-in calculator

Two things on one bill? Don’t do mental maths. Type the sum straight into the amount box and it works it out.

How In the amount field, type something like 250+120*2 and move on.

Categories

Sort spending into groceries, transport, rent — whatever fits your life. Pick an existing one or make a new one as you go.

How Choose from the list, or type a new name and it’s created on the spot.

Notes & any date

Add a note to remember what a spend was for, and set any date — past to catch up, or future to schedule something ahead.

How Use the note and date fields on the form. Future dates wait under Scheduled.

Repeat monthly

Rent, salary, EMIs, subscriptions — anything fixed. Log it once and it returns every month on the same date by itself.

How Tick Repeat every month when you add it. Delete a copy and it stays deleted.

Budgets, Bills & Goals

Set the guardrails once, and let the app do the watching for you.

Category budgets

Put a monthly cap on the categories that tend to run away. A progress bar shows exactly how much room is left, in your category’s own colour.

How In Category budgets, pick a category and set a limit. It warns near the cap and turns red over it.

Savings goals

Name a goal — emergency fund, a trip, a new phone — give it a target and a deadline, and watch it fill up as you save toward it.

How Add a goal, then log Saving entries in a category with the same name. It even works out the monthly amount to hit your date.

Total saved to date

Your starting savings plus everything you’ve set aside since, in one running figure — the “am I actually building anything?” number.

Where At the top of the Savings & goals panel.

Recurring rules you control

Every “repeat monthly” entry becomes a rule you can see and manage in one place — handy for cancelling a subscription you’ve dropped.

How Open the Repeating every month panel and remove any rule you no longer want.

Scheduled & upcoming

A tidy list of everything you’ve dated in the future, so a big bill never sneaks up on you.

How Give an entry a future date; it waits in the Scheduled & upcoming list until the day arrives.

Leftover carries forward

Whatever you don’t spend rolls into next month automatically, on top of what you already had — no manual reset each month.

Where It happens on its own; the new month’s “money to work with” already includes it.

See Where It Goes

Log a few weeks and the payoff arrives: your month, laid out plainly enough to actually read.

Insights tiles

Quick at-a-glance takeaways — your top spending category, how many entries you’ve logged, and other small nudges.

Where The Insights panel, which fills out as you add more entries.

Where it goes — donut

A clean donut chart of the month’s spending by category, with the total in the middle. The fastest “where did it all go?” answer.

Where The Where it goes panel. Each slice matches your category colours.

Six-month trend

Income versus spending versus saving across the last six months, side by side, so you can see if things are improving.

How Open Charts and pick the 6-month trend tab.

Spending chart with an average line

Clean daily (or weekly) bars with a dashed “typical day” line, so heavy days stand out instantly. Built to read well on a phone.

How In Charts, open the Spending tab and switch between Last 30 days and Last 12 weeks.

Frequency heatmap

A calendar-style heatmap that shades your busiest spending days darker — you’ll spot your patterns (payday, weekends) at a glance.

How In Charts, open the Frequency tab.

All-expenses table, sortable

Every expense this month in one table, with columns for date, category, payment method, note and amount — and a running total at the bottom.

How Tap any column heading to sort by it; tap again to flip the order.

Your Entries

Everything you’ve logged, easy to find and easy to fix — no scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Grouped by day

Entries are bucketed by date with a running total for each day, so a single glance tells you how a given day went.

Where The entries list, under the dashboard.

Search

Looking for that one payment? Search across every entry by category or note in a second.

How Type into the search box above the entries list.

Filter by type & period

Narrow to just income, expenses, savings or transfers — and to this month or all time.

How Use the two dropdowns beside the search box.

Edit & delete, with Undo

Fix a typo or remove a mistake instantly. Every delete comes with an Undo, so nothing disappears for good by accident.

How Tap Edit entries at the top of the form, then edit or delete any item.

Long histories stay fast — entries load in batches instead of all at once.

How Scroll and tap Load more to reveal older entries.

Edit from anywhere

No hunting to the bottom of the page. The full edit view opens right from the entry form.

How Hit Edit entries whenever you need it — it’s always one tap away.

Make It Yours

Small comforts that matter when you use something most days.

Recolour the dashboard

Not a fan of the default look? Change the “This month” card background and the Spent / Saved / Left bar colours to whatever you like.

How Tap the small swatch in the top-right corner of the This month card. Your choice syncs across devices.

Category colours & icons

Give each category its own colour and emoji. They flow through the whole app — the table dots, the donut, and your goal and budget bars.

How Open Categories, pick a colour, and type an emoji into the small box.

Rename & merge categories

Rename a category and every entry follows. Rename one to match another and the two merge — so “food” and “Food” stop splitting your charts.

How In Categories, edit the name; press Enter or click away to save.

Dark mode

A full dark theme across the whole page — easier on the eyes at night, and a nice look any time.

How Tap Dark in the top bar. It remembers your choice.

Rearrange the dashboard

Put the panels you care about first. Drag any block into the order that suits how you think about money.

How Drag a block by the handle in its corner on a computer, or use the arrows in Settings on a phone. Your layout is saved to your account.

Eight currencies

INR, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, RUB, AUD and CAD, each with proper local number formatting.

How Pick yours during setup, or change it any time in Settings.

Your Data & Access

It’s your money data. You should be able to reach it anywhere — and walk away with it any time.

Install it like an app

No app store needed. Add Holy Budget to your home screen and it opens full-screen, like a real app.

How When the install prompt appears, tap it — or use “Add to home screen” from your browser menu.

Works offline

Lost signal mid-entry? It’s saved on your device and synced the moment you’re back online.

How Nothing to do — just keep logging. When phone and server disagree, the more recent edit wins.

Export to CSV

Take every entry into a spreadsheet whenever you want, for your own analysis or records.

How Open Settings and choose Export CSV.

Full JSON backup

Grab a complete backup of everything — entries, budgets, goals and settings — in a single click.

How In Settings, choose the backup option to download your JSON file.

Import that merges

Bring data back in from a CSV or backup. It merges with what’s there and never silently wipes your existing entries.

How In Settings, choose Import and pick your file.

Delete all data

Want a clean slate? A guarded full wipe clears everything — and it stays cleared, even after a refresh.

How In Settings, use Delete all data and type DELETE to confirm.

Help & the Bigger Picture

A little guidance when you need it, and a wider view when you want to zoom out.

Built-in guide

Forget how something works? A 30-second in-app tour covers the essentials and the easy-to-miss bits.

How Open Settings and tap How to use Holy Budget.

What’s new notices

A short, friendly summary pops up after each update, so you always know what changed.

Where It appears on its own after an update; tap Got it to dismiss.

Built-in FAQ

Straight answers to the “how is that number worked out?” questions, right inside the app.

Where The FAQ section further down the page.

Summary page

Zoom all the way out: lifetime totals, a year-by-year view, and a month-by-month table with your running balance.

How Open the Summary page to see the whole story at once.

Colour-matched goal & budget bars

Your savings-goal and category-budget bars use each category’s own colour — while a budget still turns red when you go over, and a goal stays green once reached.

How Set a category colour in Categories; its bars follow automatically.

Honest by design

If a figure depends on something the app can’t verify, it stays quiet rather than guess. (A loan calculator was even built and then removed for exactly this reason.)

Why A tracker that misleads you is worse than one that says less — so every number you see is one it can stand behind.

That’s the whole toolkit.
